Famous Restaurants in New York City

If you're planning to visit New York City, you might like to make the experience more memorable by dining at one of the city's most famous restaurants, like La Grenouille on 52nd Street, a classic French restaurant renowned for making its clientele feel special from the moment they walk through the door. The Four Seasons and 21 serve American fare just down the street. Sardi's serves American Continental cuisine in the Broadway district.

For glamour, original Art Deco decor, and fine cuisine, The Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Plaza is the place to go. Be sure to wear your most elegant outfit to dance in its grand revolving ballroom, which offers magnificent views of the city.

Daniel on East 65th Street is owned by New York culinary superstar Chef Daniel Boulud. The fare is French peasant and the ambiance is elegant at this jacket-required restaurant. Boulud used to be head chef at Le Cirque on Madison Avenue. Word has it that the quality of their food has suffered since his departure.

Tavern on the Green in Central Park is a popular spot for contemporary American cuisine. In the mood for seafood? The Grand Central Oyster Bar specializes in - what else? - oysters and other shellfish.

Most of these restaurants require reservations, especially for weekend visits, so be sure to call well in advance. Be forewarned that the tab may be just as spectacular as the cuisine. For more down-to-earth prices, try Tom's Restaurant on Broadway at 112th Street, made famous by the TV sitcom Seinfeld.
