Legends from the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers hockey team was founded in 1926 and is in the Eastern Conference. They are part of the original six, making them one of the oldest leagues in the NHL. The Rangers have been around for over 90 years and have had many legendary players over that time.

One of the legends is a left-handed, six foot center, wearing the number 99, Wayne Gretzky. He only played three seasons with the Rangers, but they were his final three years in the league. Even though the Rangers lost the 1997 finals, Gretzky led them with 10 points and 10 assists. Another legend is Clarance "Terry" Label who played for the Rangers from 1926 to 1929. His greatest moment came in the 1928 playoffs where he had to protect the inexperienced goalie, only allowing three shots to get by them.

Bill Cook is considered another legend who played for the Rangers. He was the first captain, Hall of Famer and first scorer. Cook also led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup. Cook played over 400 games and scored over 200 goals in his career. In April of 1986, Bill Cook passed away.

The last legend to be put in the spotlight is Mike Gartner. Mike has such massive speed that he was often described as being reckless. He had over 700 goals in his career. In 1997 Gartner was named the 89th greatest hockey players in NHL history. While he only played three seasons for the Rangers, he will always be remembered as one of their most talented stars.
