The list of great athletes who have played for the New York Giants franchise is very lengthy. Tom Landry and Lawrence Taylor made the top two on this list.
Tom Landry played for the New York Giants from 1950 to 1955. He then started his career as a coach with his former team from 1956 to 1959. He is more famous as a coach than as a player. In 1960, a new team was joining the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys. At the time, Wellinton Mara, the co-owner of the NY Giants, put in a good word for Tom Landry. The rest is history. Landry got the job and coached the Cowboys from 1960 to 1988. In that time, he led them to two Super Bowl wins, five NFC titles and 20 consecutive winning seasons.
Lawrence Taylor played for the New York Giants from 1981 to 1993. He came to the Giants as a number one draft pick from North Carolina. He was a linebacker and when he finished his career, he had 132.5 quarterback sacks to his name. That number put him at number two for all time quarterback sacks. He has 10 Pro Bowl appearances and was named 1986's Most Valuable Player. He joined other greats in the Hall of Fame in 1999.
Harry Carson was a defensive end at South Carolina but was immediately switched to linebacker. He came to the Giants as a fourth round draft pick in 1976. He was named to the Pro Bowl nine times in his career.
