The Chrysler Building

The Chrysler Building is located in New York City, New York. They began building in 1928, the architect was William Van Alen and his goal was to build the tallest building in New York City. It was the goal of many architects at the time. He used very visual decoration without making the building look gaudy. There are steel gargoyles that are similar to the Chrysler hood ornaments from the 1930s. These are located on the 61st floor on each corner. They built lighting into the structure so it can be lit up at night. It was done on top using a floodlight to color the building for different events to make it stand out in the skyline even more.

It has a total of 3,862 windows on the outside and four banks of eight elevators designed by the Otis Elevator Corporation. They are one of a kind as far as elevators go. It is a very unique building and it is still the third largest building on the planet.
In 1976, it was declared a National Historic Landmark. It was only the tallest building for a less than a year after its doors opened in 1931 when the Empire State Building overtook it to claim the top spot. It does still hold the record of being the world's tallest brick building without steel-support.

The land it is on belongs to a private college, but was owned by Chrysler. It has since then been sold many times. Now the Abu Dhabi Investment Council own 90% of the building.
