Humphrey Bogart was born on Christmas Day 1899 in New York City. Bogart comes from Dutch, Spanish and Welsh heritage. His father was an affluent Manhattan surgeon and his mother was a noted magazine illustrator. It was by accident that Bogart ever became an actor. While working at a film studio he began to make regular stage performances. In 1922, Humphrey was signed to a contract at Fox Studios. But with only bit parts in small films, Fox released his contract after two years. For the next five years Bogart did stage and small film roles. Humphrey got his big break with the 1936 film “The Petrified Forest.” Bogie won the Academy Award for best actor in the movie “The African Queen” and was nominated for “Casablanca.” Humphrey Bogart passed away in his sleep on January 14, 1957. Bogart died in his Los Angeles home after a couple of surgeries and a battle with throat cancer.
Another great actor is Robert De Niro, who was born in New York City on August 17, 1943. De Niro is best known for his roles in “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull,” “The Deer Hunter” and “Cape Fear.” Robert De Niro found his love for acting at 10 years old when he was in a local production of "The Wizard of OZ" where he played the cowardly lion.
