A Few Famous Actors From New York

Harold George Belafonte, Jr. was born in New York City, New York on March 1, 1927. Not only was he an actor but also a musician. After he finished high school he entered the United States Navy during World War II. His first role in a film was in 1953 when he appeared in Bright Road. He did films until the 60's and then again started making movies in the 70's. He has starred with Joan Fontaine, Ingar Stevens, Sidney Poitier and John Travolta to name a few.

James Edward Caan was born in the Bronx, New York on March 26, 1940. After high school he attended Michigan State University and later the New York City Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre. Caan appeared in many films including Brian's Song and The Godfather. James likes to play golf and is an assistant golf coach. He has also practiced martial arts for many years.

Jeff Chandler was born on December 15, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York. At birth his name was Ira Grossel. He took drama classes in New York before entering the military during World War II. He is known for his western movies, the first of which was Sword in the Desert. He also starred in many movies besides westerns and co-starred with such leading ladies as June Allyson, Maureen O'Hara, Kim Novak and Susan Hayward. Chandler passed away in June, 1961 at the age of 42. His acting earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
