Even if you have never been to the Big Apple, most likely you have heard about some of the famous streets. Here are a few you may already know and a maybe one or two you've never heard of.
Stretching the full length of Manhattan, all the way up to the Bronx, is the famed Broadway. With an extensive history, dating back to the first New Amsterdam settlement of the 17th century, Broadway is best known for its stretch of theaters beginning in Times Square's 42nd Street up into the 50s. This section of Broadway has housed many popular plays and musicals, like the current "Wicked," "Shrek: The Musical" and "Billy Elliot."
Not too far away lies 5th Avenue, where the shopping never ends. With a credit card in hand, your every desire can be fulfilled by entering famous stores, such as Tiffany and Co., FAO Schwartz and Bergdorf Goodman. However, for the rest of us without an unlimited credit line, window shopping can be just as fulfilling. Take in the windows at Lord & Taylor or even those of the impeccable designers like Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo, Escada, Gucci and many more.
The famous Wall Street is not only a historical street, but an ever-present life changing street. Daily, the money that we invest is tossed and turned at the hands of the Wall Street brokers hoping to make us a pretty penny. Beginning in 1792, speculators and traders would gather here, which led to the Buttonwood Association, said to be the root of the New York Stock Exchange.
Each street in NYC holds a long, interesting and important story that we should all experience.
