New York is the most populated state in the country and home to the Statue of Liberty.
It is also home to many world famous musicians. New York is a city with a very rich heritage when it comes to music. It has been home to the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Lena Horne, and Neil Diamond. It has been inspirational in the formation of many uniquely New York types of music. It has also been influential in their creative flair.
Harry Belafonte and Barbara Streisand are world class singers that have felt the inspiration of the city. It is really difficult to label someone as a New York musician though. Many singers, performers and songwriters have come to New York for the inspiration of the city and its people. New York has given the world salsa and hip-hop, Irish-American music and Jewish klezmer. It has given us the likes of Duke Ellington and Chic.
Public Enemy, considered the best hip-hop group ever, came on the scene with such intensity that they actually scared the America mainstream. Madonna is another product of New York. She may have been born in Michigan, but this girl is said to be all New York. One of the strangest groups to emerge from the city that never sleeps is Kiss. Declaring themselves to be "the hottest band in the land," these four boys from the boroughs took on the world. New York will always be a place that defines change, it will never be mundane, nor will the people who live there.
