Anyone involved in the tragedy that struck America on September 11, other than the terrorists, are heroes. 9/11 showed America that there is a hero in most of us. It also showed us the superheros of our nation.
The heroes of the World Trade Center were the police and firemen who raced into harms way to save as many people as possible. Each hero who entered committed themselves to saving every person. They knew they might never come out. A true hero isn’t just someone who does a great deed. The part that makes them a hero is that they were willing to die to save another person's life. They are all heroes and deserve to be remembered as such.
Heroes are sometimes regular people too. The passengers on Flight 93 gave their lives to save others when they learned their plane was destined for the nation’s capital. They knew when they stormed the cockpit that their goal was to overtake the terrorists and probably crash in doing so. They did crash and were all killed. Because of cell phones, America heard their last words of heroism when they came together as a team to save innocent lives who didn't know they were even a target. Every person on that plane is a hero because they gave up their lives to save the lives of people they didn’t know.
September 11 was a tragic day in history that we hope will never happen again. It taught us that this world is filled with dangers that sometimes we can’t even imagine. What it also taught us is that humanity, love and heroes are far greater in number than those that would enact their hate on the innocent. We will honor the heroes of 9/11 forever.
