There are many different types of sport teams in New York and each one has it's own legend. Patrick Ewing and Joe DiMaggio are names that every household has at least heard, even if you don't like sports. Both of these players have earned the legend title in their own right.
Joe DiMaggio played for the New York Yankees for 13 years. This was the only team that he ever played for. DiMaggio was known as one of the most gifted batters in pro baseball history. He was most famous for the games he played in 1941 where he hit for 56 straight games. This is a record streak that still stands today in the major league. DiMaggio's tender demeanor and supreme talent made him a hero in his time. DiMaggio was elected into the hall of fame in 1955.
Patrick Ewing was a starter for the New York Knicks and he was the first player chosen in the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft in 1985. Ewing played for the U.S. Olympic team in 1984 and by blocking 18 shots he helped the team win a gold medal. Ewing was named one of the top 50 players in the NBA league history in 1996. He is still the all time leader in scoring, steals, rebounds and blocked shots. In 1999 Ewing became the 10th player in NBA history to record 22,000 points and 10,000 rebounds making him the legend for the New York Knicks.
