Heroes of September 11th

Although almost eight years have passed since the tragedy of September 11, 2001; most still have vivid memories of that day. Although that day resulted in 2,993 deaths including the 19 hijackers, we still have many heroes to be forever grateful to. Unfortunately, we did lose many of those heroes that very day after they did all they could.

We sadly lost 40 heroes that day when Flight 93 went down in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The passengers and crew of that flight attempted to regain control of the plane from the hijackers after using cell phones to contact loved ones because they feared they were going to die. It was at that time the passengers learned of the other three hijackings and decided to attempt to regain control of the plane. They knew they were probably going to die and thanks to their heroism, there were no other causalities involved in that flight.

We also have the countless number of men and women who were at the sites of the crashes of the other three planes and who helped to search for and rescue victims and get out the numerous amounts of injured and the dead. Those heroes not only included humans but many K-9 dogs that assisted in the search. The heroes of September 11th not only include our many public service personnel such as our police and fire departments but also many common people who risked their own lives to assist others. We will always remember and our respect for those heroes will never waver.
