No one knew how their normal every day lives would be effected by the tragic day of Sept. 11, 2001. Some never knew they would become known as heroes because of their dedication on September 11th, 2001.
Because firemen and policemen lead lives trained to help and save others, did not mean they ever thought for one minute that they would be in the situation they were in, helping hundreds, if not thousands, of people to escape from the firing inferno of New York City's Twin Towers. Six fireman's lives were saved in the Towers just because they took the time to patiently help one elderly lady down the stairs. When the building went down, they ended up in a safe place, easy to be rescued from.
Policemen of New York City immediately responded to the tragic news of the World Trade Center. The very minute they were aware of the problem, they were out and running into the buildings to help anyone they could, with no concern for themselves.
We had heroes in the air, as well, that day. There were people on the planes used to attack our country. Passengers tried to let people on the ground know what was happening so those in charge could do what they needed to do to protect the rest of our country.
Thanks to many search dogs and 78 handlers, that helped at all the tragic locations of Sept. 11, 2001, survivors and victims were reunited with there families. These dogs did not hesitate to go inside the rubble and flames to find the people caught beneath the collapsed buildings in New York City, the pentagon and on the ground of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
