Many of those who enjoy watching professional sports will know that there are so many great athletes from many different places around the world. But there are also many great athletes that come out of the United States, and New York state in particular. So who are some very well known sports athletes that have been born and brought up in New York?

One very well known sports player that was born in New York is Derek Jeter. What is interesting is that Jeter was born in New York and now he plays for the New York Yankees MLB baseball team! Jeter always dreamed of playing for the Yankees one day, and now he is. Jeter is considered to be a superstar and has won multiple World Series titles already in his illustrious career. Derek will one day be a Hall of Famer in the MLB and will always be remembered as a New York Yankee.

Another player that is very well known who was born in New York is Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Jabbar is considered by many to be the best basketball player ever to play the game. Kareem holds the all time career scoring record and has also won numerous NBA Championships throughout his career. Jabbar is a Hall of Famer in the NBA and will always be thought of as not only one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but one of the greatest overall athletes of all time! While there are many more players that have been born in New York, Jabbar and Jeter are an example of two superstars born and bred in New York.
