Famous Actors from New York City

There are plenty of famous actors who are natives of the Big Apple; Tom Cruise, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Denzel Washington all call New York city their hometown. Matthew Broderick, Danny Aiello, Woody Allen, Elliot Gould, Bea Arthur and James Caan do as well.

Some of the most glamorous stars to have ever graced the stage or silver screen hail from the city that never sleeps; Bogie and Bacall, John Garfield, Anne Bancroft, Clara Bow, Kirk Douglas, Rita Hayworth, James Cagney, Veronica Lake, Tony Curtis, Barbara Stanwyck, Burt Lancaster and Mae West were all born in New York.

Some of the world's funniest people hail from New York City, such as the Marx Brothers, Mel Brooks, Jackie Gleason, Adam Sandler, Lucille Ball, Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie Murphy, Mickey Rooney, Jerry Seinfeld, Danny Kaye, and the Three Stooges. Many of them got their start in the city as well, as it is a popular site for entertainment.

Siblings Jane and Peter Fonda, Mel Gibson, Harvey Keitel, Sammy Davis, Jr., Martin Landau, Richard Dreyfuss and Judd Hirsch have their roots in New York City, as do Hank Azaria, Scarlett Johansson, Mary Tyler Moore, Christopher Reeve, Barbra Streisand, Christopher Walken and Cuba Gooding Jr.
