Mike Dantoni was born in Mullens, West Virginia on May 8, 1951. He played for Marshall University and graduated in 1973. Mike's career took him to coach many teams in the United States and abroad. He has won many titles and coached many players. He's fluent in English and Italian, and co-authored in a couple of books.
Because of all his success, people wondered why was he going to coach the Knicks. He just has great confidence in himself and his ability to turn things around. The New York Knicks in the 2007-2008 season finished in last place in the Eastern Conference Standings. This year, coach Dantoni already has them in fourth place for the season. Right now, they are looking into maybe getting some help into drafting some players to be better positioned for the 2010 season. President Donnie Walsh has a decision to make if some of his more popular players have a future in the organization.
The Knicks have had a very complicated season and their two best players may not be back next season. What this year has shown, though, is that Mike Dantoni's system can boost a player's confidence. His attitude towards winning will do the Knicks a lot of good, as he does not punish his teams for losing. Instead, he acknowledges the fact that they played a great game, just not as great as their winning opponent. In this non-stressful environment, he will take the team members of the Knicks and help shape them into better players.
