Changes In NYC Since 9/11

Has the sense of urgency faded since the 9/11 attack on New York City? You would think a lot of things have changed, but New Yorkers admit, life goes on. There has been an attempt made to change building codes, which make building materials more fire resistant. It was also proposed to make stairwells wider in high-rise buildings to make evacuation easier. However, these proposals were set aside because of the threat to the real estate industry of monetary loss of rentable space.

It has been noted that the art world in New York has had dramatic changes since 9/11. The demand for visual representation became apparent. Artists in the city responded by producing a large quantity of artwork related to 9/11. Some memorable photographs from after the attack have become famous and have been seen worldwide.

Security has made some changes. For instance, the 354 stairs to the crown of the Statue of Liberty are no longer accessible to the public. Airports have more security equipment and security workers than ever before. Some technology includes an x-ray explosive detection machine. They have been installed in airports not only in New York, but throughout the world.

New Yorkers are resilient and united after 9/11. They had to be united because the tragedy transcended all walks of life. They joined together to fight the affects of terrorism even though many lost loved ones. New York City and its people are getting back in shape because of their spirit and strength. They have been through a war together that no one will ever forget.
