If you want to experience a famous Broadway show in New York City, unless you have nothing but time and money, you are going to have to make some choices. First, there are always choices between plays, musicals, kids and family shows, late night shows, cabaret/comedy and brand new shows.
The street is the longest in the city and there are 36 theatres on Great White Way. The early settlers would scream from their graves if they knew what goes on there now. It all began in the mid 1800s with Burlesque. Burlesque was simply a musical comedy in those days. Some of the first famous shows were Wizard of Oz and No Business Like Show Business.
Most of the shows that are famous today are musicals of the past. You can go to far away places with Lion King, South Pacific and Mama Mia, or you get goose bumps with the haunting music of Phantom of the Opera. You can even visit the lighter days of the past with Pal Joey, or Guys and Dolls.
Sometimes the topics have to do with the times, like This Is The Army during WWI, and America Reborn?, which is now playing. There have been religious themes, like Jesus Christ, Super Star and Altar Boy. The great costumes, music awesome dancing will thrill you to your bones.
Regardless of where the shows take you, they will take you to another place and that is entertainment.
