5th Avenue

5th Avenue, New York, New York is the most expensive street in the world. It is home to people of great wealth, upscale businesses, museums, the Empire State Building and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Some of the priciest stores in the world are located on 5th Avenue. There is Prada, Ungaro, Gucci, Ferragamo and Versace to name a few. Jewelry stores are plentiful including Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef as well as Harry Winston’s, are all ready and waiting to serve you.

There is a humungous Disney store as well as an F.A.O. Schwartz, the worlds largest toy store all to delight your children. There is a Japanese department store, Takashimaya that offers you fine silks, perfumes and even fresh orchids, as well as a fabulous spa in which to pamper yourself. Palatial hotels can be found on 5th Avenue as well. If you want to be fawned over try Trump Towers or the famous Plaza Hotel. Both will treat you like royalty.

5th Avenue stretches from 34th and 59th Street. It begins at Washington Square Park and runs north through Greenwich Village. It has many historic sites along the route that are all worth seeing. In fact, you should explore every little nook and cranny all along this fascinating stretch of real estate.

Benjamin Altman built the first commercial building on the northeast corner of 34th street in 1896, which saw the beginning of the movement of upscale businesses to the area. By the beginning of the twentieth century the stretch of 5 the Avenue from 59 to 96th Street was inhabited by the very rich of New York, and it remains so today.
