Legendary New York Jets Football Players

Football has been a favorite sport for many people around the nation and even the world. The courageous play of past National Football League players can be thanked for that. There are many teams that have famous players and one of those teams is the New York Jets football team.

From their early start in 1960 with the league, the New York Jets have had some of the leagues best players. One of the most famous players came from the University of Alabama. His name is Joe Namath. "Broadway Joe" Namath started with the Jets in 1965 and helped lead them to a championship. Another famous Jets players was a great running back named Bill Mathis, who originally was a member of the New York Titans until the team was renamed to the present New York Jets. A hero of the 16 to 7 win over the Baltimore Colts that gave the New York Jets the Super Bowl III championship was Jim Turner. He was the field goal and extra point kicker that gave the team 10 of the 17 total points that game. Al Toon was another great Jets players that started with the team in 1985. He played his entire career with the team until 1992. A wide receiver with the team, Toon was a great track star in high school, which helped him on the field. He was selected to three pro bowls throughout his career, but had to retire at the age of 29 due to having nine concussions during his career.

The New York Jets are one of the National Football Leagues best known teams for their past famous players. They will continue to be a force on the field with the new players that will someday be added to that list of famous Jet Players.
